An Afternoon with Ruby
Yes, that's another computer programming language. Dave Thomas and Andy Hunt discuss this object-oriented language in the January 2001 issue of Dr. Dobb's Journal. The publishers of Dr. Dobb's have also made the article available on at ddj.com. An English language user's guide also describes the features of Yokihiro Matsumoto's creation.
Being the impatient type, I downloaded a pre-configured self-installing version of Ruby for Windows. Within minutes of installing, I successfully ran "Hello, World", thus giving me the confidence that other sample files (extension .rb) would also work without the usual Sturm und Drang.
